25.QUIZ REPORT + PHOTOS

As a part of co curricular activities, the dept. of Botany and Microbiology, had conducted a State Level Quiz competition in ALC for intermediate students. On 6-12-07 in Gogeneni hostel seminar hall. Nearly 20 colleges have responded to the invitation and sent their students for the activities participation.
The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Sr. Theresa,principal of Maris Stella College and Followed by the blessings from Fr. Principal Dr.S .Emmanuel S.J, ALC and Fr.vice principalof Intermediate wing Fr.S Raju SJ. The entire quiz is divided into two sessions. Both the sessions were organized by Mrs.B.Siva Kumari, Sr Lecturer in the Dept .The morning session was organized with a preliminary round which is a written test, out of 20 colleges with three participants each; four teams were selected to the finals.
After an hour lunch break the afternoon session was started with the four final teams. And the finals were conducted in seven rounds discoveries, inventions, compulsory, visual, rapid-fire, and innovative rounds. And among the four finalists Hindu college Guntur, Dr.sabitha women’s collage, Loyola academy secundrabad secured 1 2 and 3 prizes respectively.
After the finals valedictory function was organized where the prize winners are handed over their trophies from the hands of Fr D showraiah S.J, correspondent, ALC, Fr.S Emmanuel S.J, principal, ALC,
And the programme was successfully organized by the co-operation of all the faculty of dept. of botany and student volunteers.

24.AIDS DAY REPORT

The dept of Botany and Microbiology had successfully conducted a two day program on 30 Nov 2007and 01Dec 2007 in a view to create infact to suffort the warm campaign on awareness on AIDS on the occasion of world AIDS day Dec1st.
In this view the department had conducted on essay writing competion on the evening of 30 nov 2007 where about 100 students have actively participated to write their views on the topic “Awareness on Aids".And a poster presentation competion was also conducted in the morning of 01 Dec 2007 and about 50 students have presented their poster on the same topic with essay. It was followed by a guest lecture by Dr.Vijaya LakshimiM.B.B.S. who focused on the communicable diseases. In her lecture she mainly emphasized the reasons for the spread of Aids and its effects .She also quoted that it was not due to the lack of awareness but mainly negligence is spreading the disease and we have to prevent it.
After the quest lecture some of the medicos from Siddhartha Medical College, Vijayawada have interacted with the students and cleared certain doubts raised by the students. Prizes were distributed to winner’s .Finally the program was conducted with strong determination that each and everyone should feel it responsible to prevent the disease AIDS and to save humility.
