An Awareness Programme on Swine Flu and related Viral Diseases was organized on 31^st August 2009. The Resource Persons were Dr. Ch. Mohan Rao and his team from Manipal Hospital.

Renewable Energy Day

Renewable Energy Day was held on 20^th August 2009 commemorating the Birth Anniversary of The Former Prime Minister Late Sri Rajiv Gandhi (Rajiv Gandhi Akshya Urja Diwas). A Rally was organized to create awareness about Renewable Resources. Competitions on Painting, Slogan writing, Elocution & Essay writing were conducted on the topic “Renewable Energy Resources” About 70 students participated in this event actively.

Hiroshima Day

Department of Botany conducted events in anticipation of Hiroshima Day on 6^th August 2009. Competitions were conducted in Essay Writing & Painting on the topic “:Nuclear Explosion & their Effects”.

• M. Naresh [DBM-06] , N. Geethika [DBC-23] Participated in Poster Presentation on Global Warming at St. Theresa College , Eluru on 2^nd September 2009.

• N.Geethika [DBM-23] Participated in Painting and Rangoli Competitions held at Youth Festival conducted by Acharya Nagarjuna University from 9^th to 11^th Nov 2009. M. Naresh [DBM-06] Participated and Won Prize in Quiz Competition.

• M.Naresh [DBM-06] was selected for Acharya Nagarjuna University Quiz Team to represent the University in various competitions all over the country.

• M.Naresh [DBM-06] & C.Praveen kumar (DBM) participated in National Seminar on “ Biotechnology in Life Sciences, Current Trends and Developments” by Kakatiya University, Warangal from 18^th to 19^th July 2009.

• M. Naresh attended a Seminar on “Epoch of Biosciences. A-Discussion’ conducted by Peptides, Vijayawada on 9^th Aug 2009.

• M.Naresh [DBM6] has participated in Biology “Quiz Competition” on 18^th Nov 2009 & has secured 2^nd place held at Nalanda Degree College –Vijayawada..

• M.Naresh [DBM6] has participated in General Quiz “South zone Inter-University Youth Festival by UGC & Department of Youth affairs” in Mysore.

• M. Naresh [DBM6] has participated in Biochemistry Quiz on 7^th & 8^th Dec, secured 2^nd place & 1^st place in General Quiz & Microbiology Quiz at Vignan College, Guntur.

• M.Naresh [DBM6], k.Aravind [DBM-07] has participated in “National Seminar on Insight into Nano Materials” by ALC, Vijayawada.

• M.Naresh [DBM-6], S. Anil Kumar (DBM) has participated in a National Seminar on “Recent Trends in Aquaculture” by SRR & CVR Govt College, Vijayawada on 7^th & 8^th January, 2010.

• M.Naresh [DBM6] has qualified a Written Test for Integrated Ph.D conducted by National Centre for Biological Science (NCBS), Bangalore & Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) Mumbai.

• B.Tulasiram Naik, M. Annapurana & V. Chaitanya has participated in All India Biotech Brainstorm contest Sep-2009 conducted by Usha Biotech, Hyd.

• J.Pratyusha, M.Annapurana, V.Chaithanya, Beulah & B. Sriramya has completed on month Project work in the field of Biotechnology under the title” Isolation, Amplification of Aspm (Exon 18) into suitable Vector (Puc18)” at Nthrys Biotech Labs , Hyd.

• B.Tagore S.V.K, T.Ravi & K.Charisma presented a paper on the Topic ‘Recycling of Organic Waste & E-Waste” held on 4^th & 5^th December 2009 at A.L.C. Vijayawada.

• U.L. Sahitya presented a paper on the Topic “Recycling of Organic Waste & E-waste”& won 2^nd prize .Which was held on 4^th & 5^th December 2009 at A.L.C. Vijayawada.

• B.Ranga Rao, B.Tulasiram Naik & J.Vijay Kumar participated in International Symposium on “Emerging Trends in Biomedical & Nano Technology & Biotechnology at ANU, Guntur.

• J. Purushottam Reddy has participated in “D.J. Kanaka Raju memorial Inter Collegiate Chemistry quiz” & won 2^nd prize in quiz conducted by Andhra Christian College, Guntur on 2/12/2009.

• J. Purushottam Reddy has participated in “ Vignan Sravanthi Youth Festival” & won 1^st Prize in Chemistry quiz, which was conducted by Vignan College, Guntur from 7/12/2009 to 8/12/2009

• B.Chanti Babu participated in National Integration Youth Harmony Run -2009 held by Youth wing of Rajyoga Education & Research Foundation and Prajapathi Bharama Kumari’s Ishwarya VishwaVidhyalaya on 28^th June 2009.

• M.Naresh DBM -06 participated in Quiz Competition on 27^th Jan 2010 & won 2^nd prize , conducted by P.B Siddhartha Arts & Science College, Vijayawada.

The Dept of Botany and Microbiology organised a guest lecture on "Stem Cells"on 11-09-2008

Mr.NDV Satish Senior relations executive Cryobank International, was the guest specker, he explained importance of stem cells in curing various types of diseases.

INTERNATIONAL SEMINARS

Rev.Fr.Dr.S. Emmanuel, S.J, Principal, attended an international seminar on November 25, 2008 at Mother Thresa University at Kodaikanal and presented a paper titled,"Transgenics, bio-ethics and theological considerations".He also participated in South Eastern Assisancy Principals meet held at od Alwal from 12-14 october 2008.
