9.HERBAL GARDEN

Forests in Andhra Pradesh are a home for numerous sps of medicinal plants and they are known for curing common ailments and the traditional knowledge is transmitted from generation to generation due to ever increasing biotic pressure and over exploitation the medicinal plants have decreased both in their number as well as area. It is recognized that the medicinal plants provide a safer approach in solving the problems of health and diseases in a manner that will help the eco-inter dependence of man, plants and Animals. Hence it was decided to establish an herbal garden with a rich flora of medicinal plants.
The department of Botany Under the able guidance of Fr. Principal has taken up cultivation of some of the medical plants. Nearly 30 square yards of land is allotted for cultivation of different types of medicinal plants.
The entire land is divided into plots; in each plot one variety of medicinal plant. The students of third years along with the staff keep monitoring the growth of the plants throughout the year.
During these days medicinal plants play a crucial role inAyurveda medicine. Now in the medicinal garden a variety of plants like, Boerhavviadiffusa(Atikamamidi), Calotrophis sps(Jilledu), Cintella asiatica(Sanaswathi akku), Cinnamonum carphola, Lawsonia, Phullanthus sps, Curcuma Mentha Achyranthus aspera(uttareni), Acorus calamus(vasa), Aerua lanata(konda pindi), Allium cepa (villi Alliun sativum(garlic), Andrographis paniculata(Nelavemu), Boerhaavia, Emblica etc are growing in our garden. The herbal garden in our garden helping them to identify and learn and appreciate the importance ex-situ and in-situ conservation and cultivation of medicinal plants. Names and medicinal uses of the plants are on display for giving wider awareness to the whole college Gradually we keep adding new plants to our existing collection of rare and valuable medicinal plants.
